Global Local is an Arts Council funded project that hunts down and provides a platform for the most cutting edge, up and coming acts from a whole host of genres. Whether Roma or a Rumba, these artists are remixing their culture with the myriad of 21st Century styles that exist in the UK today. The fresh new sound of contemporary UK/World music will be appearing at 22 Global Local stages at UK festivals in this, the project’s third year.

These Acts appear at many various world-class Festivals, including WOMAD, Glastonbury and Bestival here in the UK and are also much in demand globally with a busy touring schedule.

We currently have five great themes –

THE ARABIC REMIX STAGE

Encompassing a wide range of UK / Arab cross-over artists, from Belly Dancing to Breakbeat, Rai Traditional and remix, the Arabic stage brings you Egyptian Pop, Kurdish, Sufi, Middle East and Saudi Music from London.

THE DESI REMIX STAGE

Desi Remix incorporates everything that isn’t Classical Asian Music - taking in: Bhangra, Sufi Remix, Indian Rock, Bollywood, Dhol Remix, DJ's, Asian Hip Hop,
Asian Raga and Dancehall and Indian Jazz.

THE 21ST CENTURY SILK ROAD STAGE

A whirlwind tour of the Ancient Silk Road from China to Spain with bands
from Eastern Europe, Chinese Theatre, Flamenco and Northern Asian Music.

FOLK RISING

A new partnership with the Magpies Nest, which has very much been a part of the new acoustic revival gripping our shores. Global Local has managed to secure with Coda some of the finest artists in this genre . None of this folk music is simply acoustic, it all has a twist – whether it be in its styles (folk electronica) or in its subject matter.

LATIN BOMBA

Working with our main partner Movimientos Latin Bomba brings together some of the most accomplished & exciting up and coming Latin-centric live music acts, playing traditional roots, global fusions, and future Latin sounds from London, the UK and beyond. Featuring emerging artists in the Capital's new Spanish, Portuguese and South American Communities.

The project management of this scheme is led by Continental Drifts, whose work ranges from the mainstream with Radio 1 stages with the best Asian Beats to programming areas at Glastonbury / Lovebox / Bestival and working with some of the world’s largest bands. We are fully committed to bringing incredible contemporary Global music to London’s door.
