Info: The One Hackney Festival 2012 is a borough wide event taking place on 21 July to welcome the Olympic flame.

Everyone who lives and works in or visits Hackney will be invited to take part in the celebrations in many different ways.

The whole day will be a distinctively local celebration, but special guests from elsewhere in London, from UK cities such as Liverpool and Glasgow, and from overseas, will add a regional and international flavour.

The parade

On the day itself there will be a vibrant and musical street parade, moving to a specially-composed soundtrack of Hackney, and culminating in an event in one of London's finest parks, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington. At Clissold Park, you will be able to take part in a mass celebration dance to our own Hackney Anthem.

Festival fringe

Accompanying the parade will be a Festival fringe which will extend the celebrations to Hackney's distinctive town centres, with food, performance and music throughout the borough.

Info: The Brass Volcanos combine brass, saxophones and drums to improvise arrangements of both popular and less well known tunes. Ideas, solos and riffs are thrown around the band so that no two performances are ever the same. Inspired by a long tradition of brass bands from New Orleans as well as other parts of the world, The Brass Volcanos create their own interpretation of the style, playing a mix of original pieces, arrangements of popular songs, Mardi Gras funk classics and jazz standards.

Velasierra plays original compositions and exquisite Andean rhythms incorporating contemporary Jazz and African melodies and harmonies.

This event is the official launch of Two For Joy Music (offspring of The Magpie's Nest), and sees 17 bands converge at the pub and play across two stages from 2pm – 11pm. Info: The Heatwave alongside Global Local, Punch Records and Blue Lotus present a very special Hot Wuk event showcasing the cream of the UK's reggae dancehall artists, all backed by a full live band. Looking forward to the hotly anticipated festival season, this party will bring the charisma and energy of dancehall performers to the fore.

Working with festival programmers and producers, the Hot Wuk Festival showcase will help ensure that reggae and dancehall are well represented at events throughout summer 2012. Jamaica celebrates 50 years of independence this year while the Jamaican Olympic athletics team led by Usain Bolt will ensure that Jamaica is on everyone's lips.

Alongside the live acts, Rinse FM's bashment crew The Heatwave present their high energy festival show joined by carnival dancers in full samba costume. Plus Ras Kwame's Orange Hill and dancehall producer Curtis Lynch with his Necessary Mayhem sound will play futuristic and foundational reggae vibes.

The event celebrates Hot Wuk's journey so far; since 2010, the regular London bashment party has become a 'go-to fixture' on the clubbing calendar. Early London success saw it roll out countrywide in 2011 with events in Brighton, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.

Expect to see the hottest artists, most scandalous dancers and explosive carnival hype!

Maverick Gambian griot Jallykebba Susso mixes traditional Mandinka kora music (beautiful melodious 22-string West African harp) with 8-strong international band Manding Sabu drawing on rock, reggae and afro-beat; 70-year old master of the Algerian mandol, Seddik Zebiri, displays his unique take on the music of North Africa that ends up sounding like a psychedelic, Hendrix-inspired desert blues thanks to his powerful band Seeds of Creation.

Hotly-tipped new live project Afriquoi fuse live marimba, African guitar, djembe, African vocals, dancehall MCing and crisp, heavy beats into an uplifting, dance-friendly blend of chimurenga, soca, soukous, dubstep and house: afro electronics!
