    Rhythms of The City
Rhythms of the City perform not only authentic carnival samba, but many other funky styles (salsa, soca, reggae, funk, hip-hop…) with the same passion and energy. Rhythms of the City is the beating heart of London’s multi-award winning jazz community the F-IRE Collective. Drummers, singers, dancers, horns and guitars combine in a unique spectacle of up to 75 performers.

    The Comet is Coming
The Comet is Coming is the soundtrack to an imagined apocalypse. In the aftermath of widespread sonic destruction what sounds remain? Who will lead the survivors to new sound worlds? Who will chart the new frontier? In a warehouse somewhere in London 2013 a meeting would take place between three musical cosmonauts. They would pool their energies to build a vessel powerful enough to transport any party into outer space…

    BYOBrass
Here comes the sucker punch…get ready for some toe-curling pelican-hurling recession-proof nonsense from these silly brassophiles. Expect the naughtiest of noughties mashups, spine-tingling hip-hop and some original bass for your face. Be warned – this is not for the faint-hearted.

    General Roots
General Roots was formed in 2008 by a small group of close friends who all had a passion for reggae music. Without any managerial backing, GR have built up a strong and loyal fan base over the last four years, putting on trademark high energy live shows that have proved to get anyone and everyone up on their feet moving and grooving.

From Glastonbury to Germany, General Roots have been showcasing their homegrown approach to Dub, Lover’s Rock & Roots reggae all over the world. The band have played pubs, clubs, theatres, arenas & festivals of all shapes and sizes in countries such as France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Switzerland.

    Cut Capers
A swinging hip hop collective performing reggae gyp-ska – merging Spanish and English lyrics with head-nod beats and brass in the face…

    Temple Funk Collective
Temple Funk are a New Orleans-style 8-piece brass band riot, taking their lead from the Louisiana legends and adding gypsy, jungle and hip hop. Hailing from Temple Cowley, Oxford, Temple Funk hit the scene in late 2012 and haven’t looked back since. With a rapidly growing fan base they are becoming one of the UKs top New Orleans Brass Bands. Now mixing upbeat originals into a set of some classic covers, with both clever and cheeky arrangements Temple Funk are a band you can watch over and over again and still spot something new.

Featuring colourful costuming from artist, sculptor and costume designer Helen Davenport.

  • Citadel

Time and Date: 17th of July

    Location: Victoria Park

    Info:

The Park Bandstand will once more be serving as a pocket of live music and dance. Hosted by Global Local, Glastonbury’s Shangri-La creators Continental Drifts and Two For Joy, it’s a thrilling amalgamation of genres…featuring:

    Hackney Colliery Band
With influences as much from the world of contemporary rock and electronica as from jazz and global brass, Hackney Colliery Band stand out in a music landscape increasingly populated by brass bands. A New Orleans-style line up of trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone and two drummers, and a name which pays homage to the British brass heritage demonstrate that Hackney Colliery Band are rooted in tradition, yet sound thoroughly modern.

Combined with a relaxed stage presence and thoroughly British sense of humour, their live show is able to have extraordinarily broad appeal without dumbing down, presenting sometimes challenging music to a general audience with admirable dexterity.

    The John Langan Band
The John Langan Band are a trio from Scotland bringing pure folk frenzy and Balkanesque madness. The John Langan Band form a dynamic three piece offering a unique sound emerging from celtic, balkan, gypsy swing and contemporary progressive music. With a high energy delivery they present extravagant, eclectic performances with a traditional acoustic esthetic and a remarkably big sound.

    Barbarella’s Bang Bang
Accordion toting five piece Barbarella’s Bang Bang is a cacophony of carnivalistic delights; a combination of european gypsy folk and theatrical pop musicality. With roots in eastern and roman Europe, Barbarella’s Bang Bang provide a soundtrack of ecstasy to all occasions fronted by the stunning Barbarella, the bang bang will take you on a ride from the eyes of a puppet in a world of lost lovers, to bohemian dancehalls shadowed by broken suns.

    Immigrant Swing
Immigrant Swing offer their own blend of Bristol Riot Swing, a high energy, foot stomping, acoustic music merging sounds from around the globe, with influences ranging from Gypsy Jazz & Blues to Mediterranean Folk & Hip Hop. A swinging rhythm section – driven by the Balkanic sounds of the Tuba, Manouche guitar rhythms and drums – provides the foundations for MCspokeMao to deliver his own style of beat-poetry, with clarinet & flute ripping through the melodic lines. Be prepared for anything and make sure to bring along your dancing shoes…

    Chaps Choir
Chaps Choir is a 60 strong male singing gang. Say goodbye to the male voice choir most would recognise. The Chaps sing songs from across the world, combining surprising choices with deft arrangements, always with an added chappist twist. Prepare for pop song re-hashes, snowy hunting calls, Manhattanite observations, self-aware pirates and, well, lots of chaps singing …

    Bring Your Own Brass
Here comes the sucker punch…get ready for some toe-curling pelican-hurling recession-proof nonsense from these silly brassophiles. Expect the naughtiest of noughties mashups, spine-tingling hip-hop and some original bass for your face. Be warned – this is not for the faint-hearted.

    Cut A Shine
Cut A Shine are a London based troupe of traditional musicians, dynamic dancers and crazy callers determined to spread the word that the Hoe Down is a’happening. From Hoxton to Humberside, from Amnesty International to Citadel, Cut A Shine are putting ceilidh back on the map – whether at sell out dances in London or the top summer festivals. This “Anarchic Hillbilly Barn Dancing Squad” will bring a rip-roaring, thigh-slapping, pavement-stomping, exhilarating, heart thumping, blood pumping barn dance creation to any event. Whilst the banjo and the fiddle set the tone, the callers instruct any audience through do-si-do’s and strip the willows, until all are involved…

    Swing Patrol
Swing Patrol are a community of over 1,000 dancers, a passionate teaching team, four amazing troupes and a small but dedicated team of staff and volunteers. From hole-in-the-wall speakeasies to London’s great dance halls, they’ve built a massive collective energy and made great friendships along the way.

    The Broken Swing Band

Fuelled by all things jazz, The Broken Swing Band play for the love of the lindy-hopping crowd. Reviving sounds from the 1920s-40s, their enthusiasm and passion for music is infectious and bound to get any dancer out of their seat. With their sweet mix of swinging rhythms, crooning solos, and unfiltered sass, you’ll want to be sure not to miss them.

The Broken Swing Band was formed by two keen swing dancers in 2012.  They have performed at venues and events all over the capital, and combine vocals, fiddle, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, double bass and drums to create a dynamic and memorable sound.
