“Kentish folk with an African twist” THE INDEPENDENT Formed in early 2008, Cocos Lovers (pronounced Co-Koss), are an eight piece band from Deal on the Kent coast, who have the rather unique set-up of having husbands, wives, siblings and friends in the same group. They produce fantastic multi-instrumental performances combined with full band harmonies. This is showcased on the critically acclaimed debut album ‘Johannes’, which is packed with traditional folk, African and Eastern rhythms and glorious, widescreen melodies. It’s an album full of joyous curveballs, as banjos, violins, percussion, skin drums all work together beautifully against the group harmonies. Cocos Lovers were the opening act at this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival and have also appeared at many other UK festivals, such as Lounge on the Farm, Secret Garden Party and Green Man Festival. The band have toured both the UK and Europe, played many club nights and also supported the likes of Mumford & Sons and C.W.Stoneking. Cocos Lovers are soon to start recording the second album and will be heading into the studio for the winter months.
