Name:
Wara
Genre:
Latin Quarter
Wara was formed by singer, bandleader and arranger Eliane Correa bringing together some ultra talented young musicians to fuse an explosive new brand of Afro-Cuban and Latin grooves with hip-hop, funk, soul and even drum'n'bass. Their name derives from the Cuban slang word 'guara' which means good vibes, and that's what they do: irradiate enough positive energy to keep the crowd dancing up a sweat! Born in 2009, Wara have taken the London latin alternative scene by storm since their very first gig and have performed at both Latin and non-Latin events in venues such as Notting Hill Arts Club, the New Empowering Church, SOAS and The Others.
Beautiful, energetic singers Eliane and Nana sing their songs in Spanish, English and everything in between, with topics as varied as neighbourhood gossip, rum and runaway boyfriends, giving the music an accessible, international feel. Their unique sound can be described as a blend of tropical flavours with an extra dose of Cuba, shaken not stirred, asere!
